================================================================================ LICENCES AND NOTICES FOR THE OVERTURE MAPS PLACES EXTRACT SERVED BY SHLANGI ================================================================================ WHAT THIS FILE IS, AND WHY IT EXISTS shlangi.com serves Overture Maps Foundation "places" data through TWO carriers, and both are REDISTRIBUTION of the data rather than merely internal use of it. Redistribution carries obligations that a credit line does not discharge on its own, which is why this file exists. 1. A filtered extract of the whole theme, as a static search index (`landing/data/overture-index.txt`), which the add-a-place form loads on demand so a contributor can find a business by name. 2. Individual `websites` values copied verbatim onto records in our own dataset (`assets/data/places.json`, its generated slim `worker/places.data.json`, and the gated `/api/places` that serves it). Added 2026-08-06 under the legal gate of that date: a machine join over the extract, copying a URL string unchanged, is sharing Data under section 5.1 and not a Result under section 5.3, so section 2.1 attaches. The credit rendered in the map's attribution line links here, which is what discharges it for this carrier. Per-row provenance for those values, including which came from Overture and which from OpenStreetMap, is in `data/website_links_provenance.json`. Community Data License Agreement - Permissive 2.0, section 2.1: A Data Recipient may share Data, with or without modifications, so long as the Data Recipient makes available the text of this agreement with the shared Data. The text of that agreement is reproduced in full below. This file is what satisfies section 2.1; the "(c) Overture Maps Foundation" credit rendered beside the search results links here. The Overture places theme is not single-licensed. Its sources sit under three different regimes: Meta, Microsoft, PinMeTo, Krick, RenderSEO, CDLA-Permissive 2.0 DAC, BrightQuery Foursquare Apache License 2.0 + a NOTICE requirement AllThePlaces CC0 1.0 Our extract does not carry Overture's per-row `sources` field, so we cannot say which rows came from which of those. Rather than drop the rows we cannot attribute -- which would cost exactly the search coverage this feature exists to add -- we satisfy all three regimes for the whole file. CC0 1.0 imposes no conditions and so needs nothing here; the other two are reproduced below in full. Citation, in Overture's own documented form: Overture Maps Foundation, overturemaps.org NOTICE OF MODIFICATIONS Foursquare's NOTICE asks a redistributor to state, where applicable, the changes made to the data, and Apache License 2.0 section 4(b) requires prominent notices of them. Shlangi has made these, and no others. None of them adds a place, and none moves a place beyond the rounding in item 7; every other one removes, re-labels or re-encodes. 1. Geographic filter. Only rows inside a bounding box around Israel (34.2 to 35.9 E, 29.4 to 33.4 N), minus rows whose Overture country code is JO, LB, EG, SY, or (since 2026-09-05) PS, XG, XW or XZ. The box is a rectangle and the country is not, so without the second step roughly a fifth of the rows were in Jordan, Lebanon or Sinai, and a further ~4,500 in Gaza and the Palestinian localities of the West Bank. 2. Category filter. Only the Overture categories that map onto the eight categories a Shlangi contributor may choose; every other category is dropped. This removes the large majority of the rows. 3. Confidence floor. Rows below Overture's own confidence 0.5 are dropped. 4. De-duplication. Where the same name appears more than once inside the same ~11 m cell, only the most confident row is kept. 5. Field selection. The served SEARCH INDEX (carrier 1) carries only the NAME, the COORDINATE and a category. It does not carry Overture's confidence score, Overture's own category, Overture's row id, the country code, or any of the addresses, phone numbers, websites, brands, opening hours and per-row `sources` that the Overture record holds. (The private intermediate that file is built from keeps the confidence, the id, the country, the original category and, since 2026-09-04, a Shlangi tag derived from that category; none of the five reaches the served file.) Since 2026-08-06 ONE further field does reach a served file, through carrier 2 and no other route: a `websites` value, copied unchanged onto an individual record in `assets/data/places.json`. 121 values, of which 31 were approved one at a time by a human and 90 were matched automatically and carry `websiteUnreviewed` (the site labels those "בטא"). Every one of the 121 had to clear the same filters: a name-token agreement of 0.99 or better within 250 m, an own domain, a homepage rather than an inner page, and a live response. A Google-hosted, shortened, social, aggregator or parks.org.il/kkl.org.il URL is refused outright by the importing tool (`tools/apply_website_links.py`). No other Overture field is copied into that dataset. 6. Category re-labelling. Overture's category is replaced by the Shlangi category it maps to. This is OUR label for OUR form and says nothing about the place beyond which of our eight buckets it would be filed under. In particular, mapping a park or a trail into our `hikingTrails` bucket does NOT assert that it is managed by, or attributed to, any Israeli parks or forestry body. 7. Coordinate precision. Coordinates are rounded to five decimal places (about one metre) in the served index. 8. Whitespace in names is normalised. Leading and trailing whitespace is trimmed and any run of spaces inside a name is collapsed to one, because the served format is newline-delimited and a name is one line. Measured on the current extract: 473 of 26,450 names are affected, 330 of them by an internal run being collapsed. The characters of the name are otherwise untouched. 9. Re-encoding and re-ordering. The served file is a columnar text encoding with delta-coded coordinates rather than one JSON object per row, and rows are sorted into latitude bands so those deltas stay small. Beyond items 7 and 8 no value is altered by this step; the container and the order are. The unmodified pipeline is `tools/extract_overture_il.py` followed by `tools/gen_overture_index.py`. The Overture release this extract was taken from is named in the header line of the served index file itself. WARRANTY Neither Overture Maps Foundation, nor Foursquare Labs, nor any other data provider warrants this data, and Shlangi does not warrant it either. See the "NO WARRANTY" clauses reproduced below.
